Privacy

Last updated: June 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how the Melbourne University Indian Club ("MUIC", "we", "us") collects, uses, discloses and protects your personal information. We are committed to handling personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

Information we collect

We may collect personal information that you provide to us directly, including:

• Your name, email address and phone number when you enquire, join, or contact us
• Business or organisation details when you make a sponsorship enquiry
• Any information you include in messages or forms you submit

We may also collect limited technical information automatically, such as your browser type and general usage data, to help us improve the website.

How we use your information

We use personal information to:

• Respond to your enquiries and provide information you request
• Process and manage memberships, events and sponsorships
• Send you updates about events, tickets and announcements (where you have opted in)
• Improve our events, communications and website

Disclosure of your information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information with trusted third parties only as needed to operate, for example ticketing platforms, the University of Melbourne Student Union (UMSU), email or form service providers, and where required by law.

Data storage and security

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, loss, unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Calendar administration

The team calendar uses an essential sign-in cookie that expires after eight hours. Event details entered by the team are stored using Cloudflare D1 and displayed publicly when their dates fall within the calendar’s current two-month window. Short-lived sign-in attempt records help prevent password guessing.

Your rights

You may request access to, or correction of, the personal information we hold about you. You can also ask us to stop sending you communications at any time. To make a request, contact us using the details below.

Third-party links

Our website may link to third-party sites (such as Instagram, Humanitix or UMSU). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites and encourage you to review their policies.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The latest version will always be available on this page with the revised date.
